GUERNSEY OHC MONTHLY NEWSLETTER
JANUARY 2008 NEWSLETTER
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Well I hope
everyone had a great holiday season. Here is your newsletter for the month of
January. We had a great Christmas party at the Eagles the food was great the
company better and the games more fun then a stick in the eye.
We did have a
guest at our Christmas party/meeting. Hal Harper came to share some good news.
He said our Blue trail was getting great reviews. He stated that ODNR personnel
whose favorite trail was the Purple rode our trail and took back to their office
that the Blue trail was now their favorite. He gave us some free camping
certificates to be used during our monthly camping/meeting weekends. I think
they were from ODNR.
Our group of riders who braved the cold during the
Cambridge Christmas parade did us proud. We won best horse in parade. We got a
Hugh trophy. The club gave the trophy to Keith and I using the excuse that we
started our club and should get it. However, we felt that although we got it
started our members have kept it going, so we asked Hal to put the trophy at the
park office for everyone to be able to see. Besides Keith would not of kept it
dusted and I did not want the job.
Our trail
riding dates are on the web site for viewing. Keep in mind they have not been
voted on and are subject to change if another club has something exciting going
on or a member organizes a ride somewhere else.
Ride Schedule
will be available in hard copy at the Jan. 16th meeting for final
approval, and additions.

Message from the President
Well somehow I managed to get roped into another year as our clubs president. I am pleased for the support you all have shown me and hope that this year is as exciting and fun as last year. I want to thank John, Bonnie and Paula for agreeing to also serve another year. By being voted unanimously into your positions by our club members shows the support and appreciation shown by all for the fine job you have been doing.
During my past year as president I have learned a great deal of things that some people would spend a lifetime to learn.
I learned how to bake potatoes, what not to do when you find a dog on the trail, how to set up a tent, don’t take camp sour riders to look for a new trail, they whine too much. I learned not to tell Keith you can’t set a post with a broken auger he will prove you wrong. I learned not to let Paula give directions. I learned putting Bonnie and Tana together during a poker run could lead to my own heart attack. Most of all I learned that when some people in camp get bored you need to find them something to do or they will pick on you.
I was pleased to announce our trail report for the year. The new adopt a mile program has received great reviews. While trying to get the report together for the State on our VIP hours, I got mixed reviews from the members who adopted. When speaking to the Trail Maintenance supervisor (Keith) (I think that is his title this week), he defiantly remarked how well Vince and the Stewarts miles were and wanted to give them each first place recognition. The members themselves reported the rest of the miles. I will share again with you their comments so you can see where we are:
Mile 1 – Vince’s memorial mile – need I say more?
Mile 2 - Donna, "to be honest there was four (4) of us working and I think we each worked 15 minutes".
Mile 3 – Judy and Paula, " Really we were supposed to work after we found our mile?"
Mile 4-6 – Keith stated he did it all but 15 the minutes CJ worked and the 45 minutes that Marcy worked. CJ stated she worked more then that because she had a blister. He also stated that Don worked very hard on the trail while home on leave one weekend. Gave him credit for 3 hours.
Mile 6-7 – Towana said she was just happy to have a mile.
Mile 7-8 Jim said next year he would like to have his mowed by the park like the other miles. Too many hours to count.
Mile 8-9 John and Cindy were upset that they did not get all their leaves planted before last mile
Mile 9-10 Tana and Richard worked well together; their mile was just fine. Did not have amount of time worked on it since it was just so much fun.
Mile 10-11 - Bonnie said she would just call maintenance.
I want to thank Kelly on behalf of all of us for the great meals she prepared during our Poker Run. I don’t mean to leave anyone out. I know everyone has done a great job and I want to thank each and everyone of our club members who without their support none of our achievements would be as successful.
So as you can see we have had an exciting and fun group this past year and looks like we are going to have another fun year coming up.
See you at the next club meeting January 16th at the Eagles 7:00. Remember to bring a friend to check us out and possible join. If you have a place in mind to ride this season bring the information to the Jan meeting for inclusion into the schedule.
Happy New Year to you all
Bob O.
